The surgical operation of my cousin was finished by four o'clock in the afternoon of today without any trouble. His doctor, wearing a white operation uniform, explained me an instant after the operation how the operation was made at a small room adjacent to the operation room. He said the surgeons checked first how far the cancer had spread by cutting off small pieces of organization around the cancer. They frozen them, and sliced them very thin for microscope observation. Then they decided how far they extracted organizations and muscles. The operation started as planned and finished it just on schedule.
The doctor showed me the extracted organizations and muscles. A part where cancer had grown looked like a black sponge ball, diameter of which was less than one centimeter. A piece of jaw bone, about two centimeters long, was cut off from his right jaw. The remaining jaw bone was bolted down to a titan plate with three titan bolts. The other end of titan plate was screwed to the far right end of jaw with two bolts.
Sometimes cancer grown on this part is discovered only after it is so late that there is no way for treating patient, the doctor said. It was quite lucky for him that the cancer was found just after his wisdom teeth was extracted. By studying x-ray films took by a dentist who treated the patient first, he assumed that the cancer was only about six months old.
The operation itself was a perfect success. If the cancer had not spread to other part of the patient's body, he can expect to have a perfect recovery. Of course, we do hope it.
Even after long hours of operation, the doctor did not show any sign of fatigue. Still he looked energetic as well as cool. It was really lucky for my cousin to get operation from such a wonderful doctor at a good equipped hospital.
The patient was moved to a special care room after the operation. I saw him first time there. Although he could not speak, he gripped me of my hand. After he spends three or four days here, he would be moved to ordinary care room.
