In the morning, a service staff from the manufacturer came on time. He found that the cause of trouble was a short circuit of speaker cables on terminals of amplifier. He fixed them carefully and checked the other points too. It is difficult for amateurs to find such a very simple cause of troubles, although it might be an easy work for experienced professionals. I was impressed by the speedy actions and good repair works by Sony. The service was free of charge.

After he left, I set the Dolby Logic Sound Field consulting with an instruction manual, as it was a good chance for installing the system. Although it took time for adjusting the balance of sounds from speakers, I was satisfied with the results. It became possible to enjoy the surrounding sounds from speakers, namely standard two front speaker systems, a front center speaker and two rear ones. In other words, I can enjoy acoustic sounds at my home just like sitting one of the best seats in a music hall. It is needless to say that I can enjoy the sumo on TV just like when I am at a ring side seat. The troubles on main amplifiers resulted in full use of a sub-amplifier capacity.

In the evening I had a dinner with a friend who came back from New York on business. I was in New York at the new year day of this year and left for Detroit on January 2. But I have not been able to re-visit the city through today. He said the price of hotel rooms in New York jumped up to twice or three times as much as a year ago. It became impossible for me to stay there for a few weeks and enjoy the life in Metropolis without haste. Some of sightseers take hotel rooms outside Manhattan or even in the state of New Jerseys and are commuting to the city centers by train. The other trouble in New York is the shortage of competent personals. Once a good staff resigns from a company, it is very difficult to get a person who can replace him. As the supply and demand relations of labors became severe nationally, the rise of wage would be obliged, he observed. Many critics said it was a little late to raise the interest rate by Greenspan.

The continuous developments of U.S. economy is a biggest traction power for renovating Japan's national economy. I hope it can maintain its prosperity with infallible economic policy.
