A tank lorry carrying hydrogen-dioxide liquid exploded yesterday on Metropolitan Speedway. More than 20 people were injured but no death. The place of accident was less than a thousand meters away from my home.

Until I received an e-mail of inquiry from Mr. Iino this afternoon, I have not dared to go out to see the accident. Because TV News have been supplying enough information about it. But as I have a little time for walking, I went out to see the place of accident about four o'clock in afternoon.

When I came down to Gyoransakashita, I felt a light stimulated smell. The accident happened on the Speedway right above Furukawabashi Cross. There was no curious crowd but a heavy traffic congestion. The repair work were well underway.

The explosion broke not only the sidewall of speedway, but the outside wall of a nearby building. It got a big hole (length: about 60 cm, width: about 30 cm) on its 7th floor (left picture). All windows of a five story building facing the cross were crashed. A restaurant on the second floor had got a big damage even inside.

A few elder supervisors of Tokyo Fire and Rescue Station were on the spot for inspecting the accident.

It is a big catastrophe. If the explosion happened on ground street, not on elevated speedway, there would be much more damages including death.

The cause of the accident was reported that people concerned did not understand the risk of transporting hydrogen-dioxide (or neglected to take safety measures.)

There is something common with the nuclear incidents at Tokaimura, Ibaragi Prefecture.

The irresponsibility are sweeping across Japan.
