We had a class meeting at noon yesterday. Twenty four mates attended the meeting from forty five members (35 mates live in Tokyo Metropolis including Kanagawa and Chiba prefectures.) Two honorary professors who taught us at the university joined us today.

The attendants were almost the same as of last year. Mr. Shinya Kamimura came from Hirakata city, Osaka. It was the first time for him to attend the meeting. I could not recognize him at first but after I heard his name, I remembered him while he was a student (It was the first time for me to see him after graduation from university.) Mr. Toshihiro Muraki told me that he went to a driving range early this morning and hitted balls for two and a half hours iBecause I wrote about how people were making efforts to become good golf players in this diary.) Messes Kunieda and Asakawa, conducted the meeting and asked mates who came from remote cities or attended after a long absence to make speeches. The most of us have retired and are enjoying calm and steady life, but they spoke about their old engineering accomplishments. Engineers might not able to live without keeping interests in engineering. Professor Takenaka told he was helping a museum as its adviser for collecting old steam locomotives and used machine tools of historical value. Professor Takenaka talked about how he had operation on his eyes to cure cataract. He also said Mr. Inayama, a former president of New Nippon Steel Company assisted the progress of steel engineering with his deep understanding of its importance and lead the industry to develop its engineering potential. Mr. Matsuoka asked the attendants to join the class mates tour to Nepal in November, next year. All attendants seems to be healthy and it would be quite sure that we will meet again in 2000.
