When I opened my e-mail box this morning about 6:30, I found a mail titled as "Note form Microsoft Japan" which had a new anti-virus vactin. It said this mail was sent to all users of Microsoft products including those who did not like to have mails. My instinct told me not to use the vactin but to have Mr. Newcomers opinion first. Upon my request he checked the Microsoft homepage (for Japanese) and found a caution note as follows:
Caution: A nuisance mail titled as "Note from Microsoft Japan Service" which carries the virus "server.exe", Virus of Troy Wooden Horse, is being sent. If you receive such a message, please delete it immediately. |
| A detailed explanation is made by Microsoft Japan in Japanese. But as this kind of nuisance seems to have happened only in Japan, the further translation is not made. |
Fortunately I could make a narrow escape.
I would like to have your attention on a special report titled as "A typhoon of new type patents attacks Japan" on Nippon Keizai Shimubun.
| The invisible concepts such as business management which have not been acclimated to patents are being patented these days. For example, Priceline.com got a patent on 'auction in opposite way' transaction (Buyers offer price and sellers bid it.) |
If someone gets a patent on invisible service, you might be asked someday to pay huge amount of money for your infringement of patent without any pre-warning. Japanese companies, which have been slow to adjust themselves to such a new circumstances, might be hurt. It is good timing to have such a report. Let's watch the development of affairs!
