The Italia Pompeii Arts Exhibition is held at a hall of Sony building, which is located among a tall buildings complex (called as Intercity) at the east entrance of JR Shinagawa station near my home. I went there this afternoon about three o'clock. The entrance fee for aged is \750, a half of regular fee. The entrance hall was not crowded but inside the hall, not a few people were observing the exhibitions by taking notes. |

There is a statue of Herakures (middle picture) near the entrance. "Caution Dog !"made of mosaic (right picture) is placed near a ladder to the underground hall. A big statue (left picture:"Statua onoraria maschile") stands at the center of rather dark underground hall. I remember that pictures of most of exhibits are on history text books. At first I could not believe that there were such invaluable historical arts at my front and that they were true. I referred to a catalog sold at the middle of corridor and my doubts were cleared away. The excavations of ancient Egypt exhibited at British Museum in London were analyzed scientifically. The years of most of excavated goods including mummies were estimated. But at this exhibition only the place of excavation, for example Pompeii, was shown on each of them. I felt something lacking. Before the archeologists started scientific excavations, the most of these historical places were dug without any order. This might be one of reasons.

Although the left picture seems to be a stove, it is a Samovar. The mouth of rabbit held by a boy (middle picture) has an injection nozzle of spring. A scale ( right picture) reminds me a merchant of Venice.
It is amazing that there was such an advanced culture along the Mediterranean shores when Japan was in primitive Yayoi age.

I dropped in a restaurant next to the hall called "Italia". Men at bread baking furnace can be seen through 'See through window.' Waiter comes to table holding a green board on which menu is written with chalk. It is a nice place where I will come again sometime.
The big construction works for a new terminal station of Tokaido Shinkansen is on at the west side of this building. I think they have enough budgets for it because the government has to spend as much as possible for the recovery of Japanese economy. Usually heavy investment for transportation means higher costs for passengers. I hope they will make efforts to minimize transportation cost increae with this investment by improving efficiency.
