I received a following mail from Mr. Kitagawa, a classmate:

Mr. Kitagawa wrote.

hAIBO, a robot dog made by Sony arrived at my home as I told you before. Its arrival was delayed about a month becasue of minor troubles happened between me and Sony. Anyway I got it finally.

I give you a glance on it which is taken out from package box. It is said to take about two days before it can perform positively. I read its user's manual in detail and make efforts to grow it as one of my family.

Thank you.

Best regards.h

To my returned mail asking him whether AIBO was a name of product or it was a individual name which you put your own dog, I recived a following answer from him:

"AIBO is a product name.

It was named by Sony. The name is printed on the package box as you can see on attached picture(I did not notice it.) According to Sony, AIBO is a nickname creating and presenting a new life style for enjyoable coexistence of robot and human being. AIBO is an abrevation of "Artificial Intelligence" as well as a solution of equation "Eye + Robot".

Recently among my class mates ( all of them older than 75 years), two of them bought e-pets. Mr. Iino bought a Furby and Mr. Kitagawa got an AIBO. It seems to be quite sure aged people would be a big market for these kinds of toys. Incidentally I saw on NHK TV news a young female reporter called it as "electro pet". But I think it would better to call it as "e-Pet." Do you agree with me?
