When a friend of mine in California visited Hakone in winter about 15 years ago, it was snowing and cold. He asked me recently how Hakone was. I wrote a few times about Hakone on my diary. But I found out it was difficult to explain Hakone in just a few pages because Hakone was changing everyday. Weather is changing even in a day. Plants are changing every season. I was puzzled how I report to him. Although I drove around there to find some new things, I could not get results because of bad weather.

Weather in Hakone varies every minute. A fine day in the early morning changes to a bad weather covered with moistures and clouds within five minutes. Although it is fine on ground, it is raining hard at Hakone. They say it is very difficult to forecast the weather in Hakone. The scenery is beautiful. But there is big difference Hakone with Mt. Fuji and Hakone without it. You have to leave whether you can see Mt. Fuji from Hakone to chance.

I will show you some photos I took recently.

On August 16 every year, a Chinese character "Dai"(bigness) is burnt up at Myojinn-dake. Eulatia field. It is green in spring and summer, yellow in autumn, silver in late autumn. Ancient Tokaido (Tokai road) which connected Edo (ancient Tokyo) to Kyoto with avenue of sugi (cedar) trees..

You can get to Hakone from the center of Tokyo about one hour and a half drive. The difference of temperature is about seven degrees in centigrade. So it is a good and convenient resort for avoiding summer heat. Now it is not only for people but dogs. There are many who bring their dogs here.

As it is cool in evening, the regional boy (including girl) baseball match is played at a middle school baseball ground with illumination. Most of teams come up here from ground level.

It is quite a formal game. Reserved are standing and cheer them up.

Mr. Iino, a class mate, sent me a picture of new shopping mall for ladies "Venus Fort" next to MEGA.WEB and Big Sight Seeing Wheel at Odaiba. It opened to public from today.(The picture was taken yesterday by him.)
