It was the warmest day of this summer in Tokyo. Although the weather station announced it was 34 degree, it was 36 degree at Hongo street about the noon when I drove down it.
Concerning Mr. Iino's questions of yesterday about the difference between beetles and stag beetles (lucanus), an e-mail from Mr. Kambe, a class mate, suggesting to open the following web sight was received:
http://www.bekkoame.or.jp/ro/lucanus/Xsyoukai.htm
It reports the ecology of stag beetle (kuwagatamushi) in detail with a picture of each of its specimen. (The writer is unknown. So I do not link it to my sight.) I was more than impressed that a Japanese (or plural) has been making such a wonderful study on an small ugly insect. Every specimen of it carries a difficult scientific name but there is no general term on all of them like kuwagatamushi in Japanese.
I wondered why Mr. Kambe did know the existence of such a web sight. He replied my inquiries as follows.
He wrote:
"As Kawahara-san reported a story about kuwagatamushi, I remembered that I put a homepage on kuwagatamushi in my "Favorite" but I have forgotten why I did so. I think I happened to find it when I was navigating on web sights to kill my time."
But I think he has had a quite an interest on kuwagatamushi from his boyhood or something like that.
Meanwhile, Mr. Iino wrote to me the following on the fireworks exhibition at the port of Tokyo:
"Mr. Ueno invited him to see the fireworks
exhibition scheduled on August 14th with an entrance ticket to
its view sight. It was postponed to 15th because of rains on 14th.
The sight was Shibaura wharf on opposite side of Harumi wharf
from where fireworks shooted up. The Rainbow Bridge was on the
right. Due to the limited number of entrance tickets issued by
Minato-ku city government, the view point was one of the best
sight for viewing the exhibition. It took about twenty minutes
from JR Tamach station on walk. On our way, lunch boxes or canned
beer were sold on front of big buildings. The place was almost
crowded by families who came here very early when we arrived.
But there was no difficulty for finding a comfortable space for
sitting down on the ground.
The pictures which I took with a digital camera were shown as
attached. I failed to take good shots because its auto focusing
mechanism did not work welI in darkness. Every shot was out of
focus and dark. The sesnsivility of my camera might be ISO100.
So the pictures were underexposed. I felt a necessity for learning
how to get fireworks pictures."
But I think his pictures are good enough as shown in below ( The editor used Photoshop to make them brighter and more colorful.)
