When I called Mr. and Mrs. Sagara in Arkansas where the heat wave hit recentlly, I could catch the sounds of phone bell but could not get their response. But this morning I succeeded in catching them on the phone. They said the heat wave was gone and the temperature of today was about 30 degrees. Mr. Sagara said they just came back from Mr. Sekiguchi's home. Although it was hot they moved around the area with friends from San Jose. This might be one of the reasons they could not answer the phone calls. In his little vegetable garden, he could get many pumpkins and cucumbers. So he was busy for distributing them to his neighbors. The area is completely free from droughts although the other areas are suffering from fierce droughts. He added all persons living in Cove Creek are in good health. Those who are in Fayetteville or its suburbs to whom I was introduced during my last stay are getting along very well.

In the afternoon, I drove to Hakone. The driving manner has changed to the holiday driving. Many vehicles going on the passing lane did not yield to the faster ones without paying attentions on the oncoming vehicles. I met a stagnation 17 kilometer long from Kohoku to Atsugi although there was no accident. I am afraid the traffic on the express way will become much worse from tomorrow.

I had a beautiful view of Mt. Fuji at Otome Path. At Sengokuhara, clouds in the upper sky were colored to pink with evening sun. The eulalia field was covered with dark green. Many cascades and birds were singing. The temperature was 23 degrees. Hakone was much like a heaven if you compare it to Tokyo. At Taigen(Refer to my diary dated February 14), I took a dinner. The restaurant was full of summer visitors.
