As high atmospheric pressure from Pacific Ocean overlies Kanto area, Japan, it is quite a fine day from early in the morning. Although the temperature is high, we have rather strong winds with little humidity. So we can enjoy a comfortable weather today. We are able to see a first beautiful blue sky in many days from the center of Tokyo. |
It was one of the busiest day for me. Last night I crashed a pair of my spectacles which was put on the top of my bed as I sat on it. Frame was broken but lenses were not cracked. As I have another pair specially made for computer operation, I can do my works on PC as usual. When I drive, I need the crashed one. So the first thing I did this morning was go to a spectacles shop only to find out that it would take ten days for the repair. So I was obliged to buy a new frame. As I have been a regular customer for the shop, I told them my experience in America. When I crashed my spectacles as the same way of last night, I dropped in a glasses store where a man with dignity repaired it carefully in front of me by taking lots of time. But he did not take repair fee as he insisted that it was free of charge, I dared to give chips but he never received them. The Japanese replied that they have did the same way as an American did but recently we were obliged to change our servicing policy because many discount glasses shops were selling at the lowest prices. We have to survive the competitions from them.
| The consumer must decide himself whether he buys products only or he wants to buy both products and services. These days some of durable goods such as watches, cameras and glasses have become consuming goods which require no repair service. It is a difficult decision to make for the customer. |

After two o'clock in the afternoon, I went to Lake Kawaguchi. I met congestions repeatedly on my way there on the express way. Usually the out going traffic from Tokyo is not heavy in Saturday afternoon. One of the reasons why it was crowded might be that the long summer holidays for students began from today.

When I got off at Lake Kawaguchi, woods were covered with dark green and sky is transparent blue. I felt comfortable by enjoying the resort atmosphere. |

The reason why I came here was to visit Mr. Nakamura and to ask him to repair my lap top PC. Recently such news media as CNN、ABC，BBC or Yomiuri recommended to download a new version of RealPlay. I did it yesterday with the result that I got a warning that you could not open them because of common errors. I could see well these media with the old version but on the new version it did not work at all. The technical service of Real Player told me "Clean up all of softs for RealPlay from the hard disc and then download the new one. " I did it following the instruction sent to me. But I failed. The result was the same as at the first trial. When I told them the result, the RealPlay suggested to renew the VAIO's sound driver because the old VAIO's driver might not match the new version. So I checked VAIO's homepage but no announcement made on drivers of 505EX. Furthermore I found myself in deep troubles. When I cleaned up their softs, I made errors with destroying a part of Windows 98. About the one third of set items became impossible to open. Through today I did not realize it because as far as e-mails or homepage are concerned it worked well just like before. This situation was beyond my control and so came to Nakamura-san asking for help. The damages of Windows 98 were restored by downloading from the original 98 disc easily. But the RealPlayer still did not work. Finally we found out that VAIO had two sets of sound driver and that only one of them could meet the Real Player. Finally, everything was solved and refreshed. The new version of Real Player works better than the old one. I enjoy all of news reports with voices and pictures. Although some more troubles happened in such softs as Fgw50 and Fax, we could overcome them.

A music concert at the open music hall near to the laboratory ended with a few big explosions of fireworks. At the same time, our restoration work was finished. |
On my way back I met a big congestion caused by a rear end collision of three passenger cars. It is better to avoid express way driving during the summer holiday season.
