It is fine today in the Kanto area, but the weather station said it would rain all day long tomorrow. I drove up to Hakone through the Chuo Super Express Highway ( as the Tomei Super Express Highway was under the concentrated repairs ), expecting to get good pictures of Mt. Fuji when the weather was changing every minute. Furthermore it might be possible to get chances for appreciating the colored leaves. The traffic on the highway was very smooth. On my way there, I planed to climb up to a view point on hilltop by taking a cable car from the lake Kawaguchi. I wished to observe the colored leaves around Mt. Fuji. But as I found the mountain was covered by the thick clouds, I canceled the plan and took a go-around Mt. Fuji speedway to Lake Yamanaka. On my way there, I saw a big field of pampas grasses along the skirt of mountain. The silver ears were waving beautifully. When I arrived at the lake side of Yamanaka, I happened to see Mt. Fuji. through a chink in clouds.

The hills around the lake were colored already. As it had a sun shine, middle school students were exercising marathon. The red leaves of doudan-tsutsuji were magnificent. The big maple trees began to be colored.

But it soon started to rain.

The upper part of the Kagosaka mountain pass was colored beautifully, but I could not take shots of them as I could not stop my car on the highway. It was 6 degree at Lake Yamanaka while it was 8 degree at Hakone. The two degree difference was very important for having colored leaves. Hakone was not colored yet.
