Messrs. Hiroshi Iino, Jyunji Uwano, Hideo Kitagawa and me, four of class mates, got together at the exit gate of Tsukiji Market station on Subway Ohedo line at 8:30 in morning. We took a walk inside the Tsukiji fish market. Large and small vans came in and out frequently. Small carriers operated by standing drivers were running around at messy inside of the market. To walk through them safely was not easy. We went to the Uogashi-Yokocho (fish market alley) next to the market but within the same site. There were many small stores and sushi stands. We selected a sushi stand where we could sit at a corner as shown in the bottom picture. The shop master handled a kitchen knife with remarkable skill. Mr. Kitagawa, who likes hand works, was very much impressed by him. From menu. we selected "Omakase" (Up to the Master.) All of us satisfied with it. It costed 2,350 yen per person. What I was impressed was no smell in the shop, although almost all of sushi shop have their peculiar smell. Under fierce heat, we enjoyed fresh fishes. It was really magnificent.

On the other side of the market beyond a highway, a tall and modern building of the National Cancer Center Hospital, where I visited frequently as an outpatient, was located. As the fish market which has its own long history has become narrow and its equipments have become outmoded, the plan to move it out to a new site is almost completed. But as there is a movement against it, the renovation plan of the present site is not in progress. There is a contrast between the new and old as shown in the bottom left picture.

From the sushi shop, we climbed up to a restaurant on the 19th floor of the hospital. We saw Mt. Fuji between the Tokyo Tower and a tall building under construction, but my small camera could not catch it. We saw the rainbow bridge or Odaiba clearly as they were not far from here. We enjoyed the summer heat at a well air-conditioned big restaurant with a panoramic view by having cakes with drinks ( a set of cake and drink costed 550 yen per person.)
