8/3/2002

I got up at 3:30 this morning. Last evening I went to bed at 5:30 in early evening. So I slept for 10 hours until this morning. When I switched on TV, I was surprised to see a classical music. It was Beethoven's sonata for piano and violin played by Anne-Sophie Mutter and Lambert Orkis. Soon I found it was broadcasted by BBC.

BBC is sending not only news of world but many cultural programs to world people for 24 hours. Meanwhile NHK's Overseas Broadcasts are for Japanese staying overseas. They are not for foreigners to understand Japan and its politics, society and cultures including music and arts. There is a big difference between BBC and NHK.

Incidentally, I found this morning' s BBC music is from a CD recorded in live at the Elisee Theater in Paris in 1998 (they try to save cost as much as possible, I think.)

Although there were moistures in morning, I climbed to the Otome mountain pass at 6:00, expecting to see Mt. Fuji. The mountain and the Gotemba city were covered by morning moistures. So I could see them vaguely. The clouds in east sky were not cleared up yet. And the morning sun shine did not directly hit the top of mountain. This might be another reason why I could not see the mountain clearly. But I could get a picture with a digital camera which has better eyes than human's.as follows:

* It was 18 degrees according to a thermometer installed on road side. It was cooler here than in Tokyo by five or six degrees, I think. Such temperature difference is not only in August but through out the year. At Lake Yamanaka, it is cooler by one or two degrees.B

* While I am staying here, I try to recover the delay of English edition. I wrote the page of July 31 already. I will make another effort to finish it.
