Not a few readers of Travel diary were terrified by the mass media reports on the computer virus, I think. I asked Mr. Yoshinobu Nakamura, an advisor of computer operation, how we should cope with the unending virus attack on our computer systems.

AK: According to the morning edition of Nikkei Newspaper dated December 28, this year, "the badtrans B" caused the severe damages to Internet system. Even if you do not open the contaminated mail, the machine will be polluted. Even if you discover the polluted mail and erase it, you cannot avoid the fierce damages. How should we do?

The new vires, such as Badtrans B, utilize the given (old) security holes of Internet Explorer. To take proper actions such as follows will protect you from troubles;

#The versions of InternetExplorer must be 5.0 P2A5.5SP2A6.0.

#To renew your anti-virus software every two or three days to the latest version.

If you want to have better security, do not register your mail address on the OutlookExpress's address dictionary. The best way is not to use OutlookExpress at all. You can avoid the further infection.

If you can get the correct and latest information about virus activation, you will not need to have the anti-virus software.
