From the early morning, it had a transparent blue sky. It was really a fine day. It has such a beautiful day only once in a year or even in two years. When I drove up to the Otome mountain pass, I saw a perfect Mt. Fuji in front of me.

The bottom left picture was taken from the Owakudani parking lots at past eleven. Two cable cars can be seen in it. The bottom right was taken in afternoon about 14:30 from the Otome mountain pass. White clouds were approaching the peak of mountain.

Columns of smoke were rising up into the air at Owakudani (valley).@They have become active since the beginning of this year, as I reported the other day on this diary. I was surprised to see them today because their activity has increased substantially. When I started to climb there from the Lake Ashi, I smelled sulfur in burning. Furthermore as far as I knew, the smokes were consisted mostly of vapors. But I found today they came out with dust. Now and then the area was covered with thin dirt film. From a big crater, clamorous noise like jet planes came out continuously. A warning board said "Poison Gas!. Do not enter." If the eruption of smokes becomes harder, the whole area will be prohibited to enter.@

I left Hakone before 15:00 via Tomei for Tokyo. Although it was Sunday afternoon, the traffic on highway was light. However on the way, there were two big car crashes so that it was 18:30 when I got to home.

Mr. Ichiro Kitano, a class mate, mailed me that December calender on this diary was deviated a day from the right one. Immediately I collected it. Think you.
