I went to the Yamatane Museum located at Chidorigafuchi, Tokyo to see the Maestro Dogyu's Art Works Exhibition. Although it was raining hard this afternoon, there were spectators more than I expected. The following pictures are copied from the museum's homepage.

The maestro lived to be a hundred and two years old. The today's exhibition was displayed in the order of production year with a memorandum written by himself. I was impressed by his energetic activities even after seventy years old. He wrote not a few big works after he became quite old, even at the year of his death.

The upper left picture is an eddying current at the Naruto Straight between Awaji island and Shikoku island (wrote in 1959.) He said it was smaller than he expected because it was not the time of spring tide. He wished to come again at the right time. The right picture is a ballerina (wrote in 1956.) When he had an introduction letter to her, she was performing at Kansai. Immediately after he heard this, he went to Osaka and stayed there for a while. Every night when she came back from the stage, he asked her to take pose before she took rest.

I have seen his many small works, but it was the first time for me to look at big works. Among them, my favorites are Himeji Castle (wrote in 1955,) Nachi Fall (wrote in 1958) and the above said two pictures.

It was still raining hard on my way back. I was happy as I could enjoy good pictures at ease.
