Mr. Hiroshi Iino, a classmate of mine, wrote me about the progress of Roppongi urban renewal construction. He is one of rightful persons of the area and has worked hard to get them on one agreement.

In his mail to his classmates, he said "The success of urban redevelopment plan brought good effects on the neighboring towns as proved in Arc Hills in Akasaka and Roppongi or Garden Place in Ebisu. As Mr. Shintaro Ishihara, the governor of Tokyo Metropolis, suggested, one of aims of the project is to sweep away dark images of the area. We are making efforts to build a safe and good living environment as well as a comfortable working environment. Furthermore we hope it will become an attractive town for foreigners as it has healthy entertainment services."

Nine months have passed since the start of construction. A big 32 meters deep hole was dug in the red earth of 30,000 tsubo. Its bottom's height from sea level is zero. A office tower of 54 stories will be built on it. The picture was taken by Mr. Iino on December 23, 2000.
