A recorded digital hi-vision concert of Osaka Philharmonic conducted by Maestro Takashi Asahina was broadcasted through BS digital today. The concert was recorded last year. "Great Symphony" by Robert Schumann was played. As Mr. Asahina was born in July 28, 1908, he is now 92. At this high age, he is taking an active part in music concerts as a conductor.
As his orchestra is located in Osaka, I can rarely attend his concert. About two or three years ago, he conducted NHK symphony orchestra by replacing a sick foreign conductor at NHK's subscription concert. He came up to Tokyo only for the concert and conducted Beethoven symphonies. While looking at his play on digital hi-vision, I was more than impressed by young and energetic play. He is really a man of music.
Quality of recording was not enough for digital hi-vision broadcast (by a civilian broadcasting company.) I am afraid there might be technology gap between NHK and civilian broadcasters. At the end of recording, they put a telop which introduced Mr. Asahina's carrier. But it was too immature. Due to the latest high technology development, we can enjoy better pictures and better sounds by staying at home. At the same time, TV audience will notice the technology gap among broadcasters.
